Reggie’s story
Reggie came into our care in 2021 when his owner sadly needed to rehome him. Reggie was living in Scotland and because he was dog reactive, finding a rescue space for him wasn’t easy, but his owner didn’t give up and kept on trying rescues further afield. When we were contacted, luckily we had a space and we were happy to offer it to Reggie and he and his owner made the long journey to us.
During some assessments and testing with different dogs, it was clear Reggie was not very comfortable around smaller dogs but was happier being around some larger dogs once he got to know them and so Reggie was eventually able to enjoy some regular group walks here with some of his friends.
Reggie also loved to zoom around our orchard area and do some agility. His long legs easily made him the highest jumper! He was a very clever and lively boy and a joy to have here as he was always making us laugh.
Whilst here we also muzzle trained Reggie for safety whenever he was out and about in more busy areas with lots of other dogs around. The muzzle wasn’t really an issue for Reggie as he took to it pretty quickly and once he realised you could still fit a treat through, he was more than happy! 😁
During Reggie’s stay with us we were able to build his confidence with some dogs, and we also learnt his triggers with others and how to safely manage them and to keep him happy and comfortable. We were then able to match him up with a lovely new family who took on board Reggie’s worries around other dogs and who were happy to continue to work with him. He went on to be officially adopted in 2022. We get regular photos of him lounging around on his bed and living the good life. 🥰
We were happy to be able to help Reggie and not just turn him away because he wasn’t straight forward. Turning dogs away that are not easy is something that we have never done. We just help, wherever we can. 💙
