Buddy’s story

Buddy came into our care in 2019, from another rescue where his future was uncertain due to being deemed ‘uncontrollable’.  We were made aware of Buddy’s plight and we went to visit him and what we saw was a lovely boy who just needed a different approach, and so we offered him a place with us.  The day Buddy was collected he sat in the back of the car with such a look of worry on his face about where he was going. When he arrived at our kennels, everyone went over to greet him and he had a cuddle from each person and from there, he knew he was safe.

Buddy had quite severe dog reactivity, having been attacked by another dog when he was younger and then subsequently kept away from dogs, which didn’t help him when he then did unexpectedly encounter them again.  Buddy needed his confidence building back up, which he did slowly when he made friends with another of our resident collies. They went on to enjoy many a walk together and Buddy started to turn a corner.

Buddy did have a couple of home trials which didn’t quite work out for him but we didn’t give up in finding his perfect match.

Buddy then caught the eye of one of our volunteers, Carol who wanted to offer him a home.  Being a quirky and highly strung collie, Buddy had his moments, from being spooked by things on walks and dragging Carol into bushes, and also his dog reactivity, which although was much improved, still did cause Buddy to panic at times. But over time, Buddy’s confidence grew more and more and he now enjoys walks at all times of the day, with dogs all around which he doesn’t react to but prefers to sit and watch them pass instead.

He still has his funny little ways and little disgraces at times, but Carol says ‘Buddy is Buddy’ and she absolutely adores him.  They’ve carved out a life together and Buddy is living his best now with his mum who is committed to him 100%, which is what it’s all about. 💙
